COVID19/Coronavirus Notice - March 12, 2020

Hello Church Family,

We are living in a very unique moment that is both very local and global.  The COVID19/Coronavirus epidemic is compelling us to not carry on as usual.  Yesterday Oregon Governor Kate Brown issued a 30-day ban on public gatherings of 250+.  This morning we received word from the Oregon Conference clarifying further that church gatherings approaching an attendance of 200 need to comply with the ban. We do meet that figure, even on a low-attendance Sabbath, in terms of how many people pass through our building between 8:45a and 1:15p.  Therefore, we will take the responsible action and comply.  There will be no first service or Sabbath schools this Sabbath until further notice.  We will be live-streaming a type of service at 11:00a that you can view from your home. Just to be very clear, the 11:00 service will be a bare bones team providing a service for the live stream--we are NOT intending to have members attend in the sanctuary.

Perhaps small groups of the church family could gather to have ‘church’ together.  The cancellation of small groups and church ministry meetings will be left up to the leaders of said groups. We will continue to monitor the developments of the epidemic and will assess how to proceed beyond April 8 as that date approaches. Until then, individuals who are in the high-risk group should refrain from attending any public events. These high-risk groups include:

  • Any individual who is immunocompromised.
  • Any Individuals age 60+ who have underlying medical issues such as heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease.
  • Any individuals age 70+ in any health condition.

We know that many will applaud this decision as very wise while others will see it as unnecessary.  We are trying to comply with the expert recommendations in the field of viral epidemics.  We are praying for our church family, our community, state and globe.  Please take precautions and take care of yourself and your family.  God is with us.  We need not live in fear but we need to live responsibly.
