Pastor Jones is the Associate Pastor of the Beaverton SDA Church and comes to us with 30 years of Pastoral experience.  He is known for his thought provoking sermons.  You always leave his sermons with hope and counsel to live by.  He is always beaming with joy and tries to shake hands with as many people as possible when he enters the church.  Time and again you hear people say that Pastor Jones understands what they have been through.  His personal touch and his conversations continue to lift people up.  We are blessed to have him as one of our pastors.

Pastor Jones recalls that when he was nine years old, a man coming out of a store called him a preacher. This continued throughout his life, people constantly telling him that he would make a good pastor.  He often wondered about this and started praying in earnest for God to reveal his plan for him.  Before long, he realized that God has been speaking to him through many people throughout his life.  As time went on, it became clearer and clearer that God had called him to ministry.  He responded by dedicating his life to ministry and never looked back.  He loves serving the Lord and it shows.  You will always see him with a smile and always excited about meeting people and shepherding the Beaverton SDA church.

Prior to Beaverton, Pastor Jones served at Your Bible Speaks Church for eight years.  He also served as pastor at the Salt Lake Central Church, Salt lake City, UT.  In California he served as an associate pastor at the Oceanside SDA church.   He has also served as a chaplain in San Diego, CA, Salt Lake City and Portland.  He says that the highlights of his ministry were in the area of building multi-cultural churches and ministering to people personally.

Pastor Jones was born in Staunton, Virginia to Herbert and Vivian Jones.  After his early elementary education, he went to Booker T. Washington and Robert E. Lee High School. He studied for the Gospel Ministry at Andrews University.  At Loma Linda University, he studied to be a chaplain by majoring in Clinical Pastoral Education.

Pastor Jones loves his family.  This became very clear when his wife was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. He handled the situation with such grace and faith in God.  He is a dutiful husband, taking care of his wife and the children.  When his wife completed her treatment and made it to church, you should have seen the excitement in his face.  His wife, Joyce Jones, is an amazing lady.  She exhibited such faith in adversity.  She was so calm when she received the news of her cancer.  This was only possible because of her deep faith in the Lord.  You will always see her with a smile, constantly praising the Lord.   We continue to pray for her and her complete recovery.

Pastor Jones is blessed with six children - Leah, Sarah, Ebony, Tamala, Mark and William.  Leah is married and living in Iowa.  Sarah was awarded a fellowship to work on her PhD at the S.I.T.  Institute in Vermont.  Ebony is a sophomore at the Clackamas High School. Tamala lives in Waldorf, MD and works in Human Resources in Washington, D.C.  Mark and William live with their families in Salt Lake City, UT.  Pastor Jones says that his family is very energetic, outgoing and loves to travel.  They love to be together, worship together and have loads of fun together.

Here is something that you may not know about Pastor Jones.  He likes to do oil paintings and in fact he has sold a few of his paintings.  He loves to listen to Christian music and likes to go out into nature and meditate on God.  He would like people to know that he delights in ministering to the needs of God's people.  He wants to be known for His love for his Savior Jesus Christ and for shepherding his sheep!

His vision for the future is to simply fulfill the Gospel commission until Jesus comes.  He is ready to do whatever the Lord wants him to do and finally meet Him in the clouds of Glory along with his family and the people he labored for.
